Privacy Policy

Draft - to be reviewed before launch. Last updated 5 October 2026.

Ember is a dating service for adults aged 18 and over. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Photos

Every photo is re-encoded when you upload it. This removes the hidden data a camera attaches, including the GPS position where it was taken. Photos may be reviewed by our team before other members see them.

How we use it

To run the service: to show you profiles that match your preferences, create matches, deliver messages, keep members safe, investigate reports, and send you account emails such as address confirmation and password resets.

Advertising

Ember is free and is paid for by advertising. We use Google AdSense on the website and Google AdMob in the Android app. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to show ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalised ads at adssettings.google.com, and learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. We do not give advertisers your profile, photos, messages or location.

Who can see what

Other members can see your first name, age, photos, bio, gender and approximate distance. Only your matches can message you, and only they can read your conversation with them. Our moderators can read messages when investigating a report.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from your profile, in the app or on the website. This permanently removes your profile, photos, likes, matches and messages. Reports you made or received are kept, without your profile, so that abuse can still be investigated.
